Flora M.Torra, Ed.S. Licensed School Psychologist
I am a licensed School Psychologist who stepped out of the box to include therapy for children and teens. With 25 years of training and experience, I integrate the fields of education, neuropsychology and psychotherapy to serve children, adolescents and young adults.
My vision is to create a place where children can be seen and heard for who they are and to guide their parents in developing a therapeutic or more attuned relationship with their child.
My interests lie in connecting children to their inner resources; their playfulness, their creativity and sense of Self. It is through spontaneous play that a child can connect to their bodies and gain self-control; it is through their imagination that they can solve problems; it is through their creativity they can develop self-esteem.
In Sandplay we use Jungian psychological principles to connect with the active imagination and nonverbal processes in the child. By creating a “free and protected” space they can tune in to their impulses, thoughts and feelings as a way to resolve inner conflicts. In somatic therapy we use a bottom up approach that starts in the body to assist the child in feeling more grounded, more in control, and feel better about themselves. I can assist with lack of self-control and behavior problems, anxiety, divorce, grief or loss, attachment issues and trauma.
I began my career teaching students with learning disabilities and quickly learned that I wanted to do more. My thirst for learning led me to earn a Specialist Degree in School Psychology, a Master’s of Science degree in Pastoral Studies, and a Diplomate certification in School Neuropsychology. I also traveled as a volunteer to Croatia assisting in a summer camp for post-war orphans and was a missionary for a year in the Caribbean. I continue to do volunteer work with the Dominican Republic missions and currently with Mexican immigrant population in Apopka. I became a Sandplay practitioner of the Sandplay Therapists of America. I traveled to Switzerland (Carl G. Jung’s home and birthplace of Sandplay) to participate in an intensive Sandplay conference involving bodywork, art therapy and contemplative practices.
